Selection Criteria
The most competitive applicants should have:
A minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent (or in the top 10 percent of graduating class) for 9th-12th gradesA demonstrated commitment to service and advancing the needs of people in their home countryExcellent oral and written communication skills in English, with a minimum 90 TOEFL iBT (with no subscore lower than 20) or 6.5 IELTS (with no subscore lower than 6.0)Demonstrated leadership, volunteerism and community service
Who is qualified to apply?
To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must be secondary school students (not university students) applying as first-year (freshman) students for the fall (August) 2016 semester.
U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents or dual citizens of the U.S. and another country are not eligible to apply.

The scholarship provides full tuition, fees, room and board for one first-year (freshman) high-achieving international student
Duration: It is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, based on continued satisfactory academic performance.

Data collection/Assessment of Disaster Victims across the Municipality as well as conducting Need Assessment Survey/Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) across the Municipality.
In collaboration with the Municipal Council and World Food Programm, I facilitate in the distribution of food and non-food items to disaster victims across the Municipality as well as to monitor and evaluate the relief items given to disaster victims across Kanifing Municipality.
Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment of Disaster Prone Areas within Kanifing Municipality.
Participate in the drafting of the Geographical Information System (GIS) project document for the Municipal Council and Preparation of project documents for the Municipal Council.
Preparation and compilation of Municipal Council Plan and Annual Budget.
Part-time service delivery for the Gambia Association of Local Government Authorities on behalf of Council.
Develop/prepare Constitution for Associations/Guilds/Societies (Women, disables, Youths, Business etc) and facilitate their registration with Attorney Generals Chamber under the Ministry of Justice to become a legally registered Community Base Organisations (CBOs).
I serve as the Technical Advisory for the Municipal Disaster Committee on Disaster issues.
Conduct regular sensitization on Disaster Risk Reduction and Community Base Disaster Management.
Train the Municipal Disaster Committees on Disaster Management Act and Policy.
Mobilise resources for the respond and relief to Disaster affected families.
Prepare quarterly Plans and Annual plans for Wards and Sub Ward Disaster Management Committees within the Municipality.
Facilitate the preparation of the Municipal Disaster Committee’s plan and the Ward Disaster Committee plan and ensure that plans are followed and implement to the latter.
From 2010 to 2011, I serve as the Municipal Disaster Coordinator and the Administrative head for all Disaster related issues within the Municipality, under the minimum supervision by the Lord Mayor of the Municipality.
Community Sensitization on the following areas:
1. Disaster Risk Reduction.
2. Exclusive Breast Feeding.
3. Polio Eradication Campaign.
4. HIV and AIDS.
5. Use of long lasting insecticide treated bed net to control malaria etc. As well as distribution of long lasting insecticide treated bed net to households in the Municipality.
Facilitate Community Sensitization Training on the following thematic areas:
1. Training of Youth, Women and Duty Bearers on good governance and Local Government Act 2002 and it revised version 2004.
2. Role of Youth and Women on decision-making process.
3. Leadership concepts.
4. Peace Building methods and sustainability within the communities.
