The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master’s by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS).

About the Award

The objective of the USydIS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University’s research activities. The USydIS is open to all research disciplines; however participation in the USydIS program Research Period 2 and Research Period 3 are at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty. These Scholarships will be awarded to eligible applicants twice a year – in October/November in conjunction with the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) for commencement in Research Period 2 (March), and in early April for commencement in Research Period 3 (July).

Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for USydIS is the same as the IPRS.

The USydIS is available to students commencing in both the March (Research Period 2) and July (Research Period 3).

Value of Scholarship: The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance.

Duration of Scholarship: for up to three years with a possibility of one semester’s extension for PhD students.

How to Apply

Students must indicate that they would like to be considered for the USydIS by completing the relevant section of the Postgraduate Research Application form.

No separate application for a USydIS Scholarship is necessary. To be considered for the award, completed* admissions applications MUST be received by the Admissions Office by:

  • 31 July of the previous year for Research Period 2 (March) commencement
  • 15 December of the previous year for Research Period 3 (July) commencement

Important Notes: Please note: you MUST submit all required supporting and Faculty specific documentation before your application is considered to be complete. For scholarship selection purposes, applicants must also submit Research Potential Indicator (RPI) information. IPRS/USydIS 2016 Round 1 offers will be made from 30 October to mid-December 2015. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by 17 December 2015.
